 The Construction Product Directive harmonizes laws, rules and regulations among EU member states in the construction sector.
By the Construction Product Directive,EU aims at opening markets and achieving mutual recognition of procedures for marketing construction products.
The necessary condition fur such a recognition is equalizing current requisites for construction products according to harmonized technical prescriptions. Only products satisfying certain conditions may be marketed.
- Mechanical resistance and stability
- Safety in case of fire
- Hygiene, health and the environment
- Safety at work
- Protection against noise
- Energy economy and heat retention
CPD is about to replace cutrrent DM LLPP è destinata a sostituire l'attuale DM LLPP in Italy, U marking in Germay, and so on; yet each State keeps on holding responsibility for proper homeland enforcement.
Thus additional enforcement rules will be fixed, diversifying according to local peculiarities, as long as they are not conflicting with the very CPD (ie: limitation rules).

 The new CPD regulation, that will replace with many changes the CPD directive 89/106/CEE, is at present being following the approval procedure.
The requirement for such new regulation arises from a proposal of the commission, adopted on May 23, 2008, that precisely defines in itself the meaning of its object by fixing the peculiar meaning of CE marking for CPD. No doubt s this will avoid confusion with other regulating acts.
CE Marking for CPD implies notification of information about the product performance that goes with the marketing of the product itself, information themselves are to be sampled according to the regulating dispositions.

 CPD applies to “Works”(buildings and civil engineering works) and building“Materials” . Building“materials” is intended as any material built so as to be permanently folded into oeuvres. CE Marking is required only for Materials.CE Marking has to be appended by the person responsible for the placing on market, who is normally the manufacturer or an authorized representative settled in Europe. In lack of them, it is the person who , for the first time places the product on EU market. |

Step 6 to
- 5 systems, with the deletion of the previous system 2;
- Simplification of the previous system 1 + with transfer of the trial survey on site and on the market. This system (the most demanding among those provided by the CPD) requires, in addition to the tests to be performed in the factory of production to market the first product, series of tests that can be done with the product already on the market or on the site. Such evidence is not longer needed.
